Clients under guardianship and conservatorship become involved in the criminal justice system and Child in Need of Aid system regularly. What is guardianship and conservatorship? What is the process for the appointment of a guardian or conservator? What role does a guardian and conservator play in criminal and CINA matters? This CLE will walk non-probate practitioners through the basics of guardianships and conservatorships and discuss what the criminal and CINA practitioner needs to know when representing a client who has a guardian or conservator.
Beth Goldstein is a Deputy Director and Supervising Attorney for the State of Alaska Office of Public Advocacy (OPA) and in that capacity is the head Public Guardian for the state. Prior to her current position, Ms. Goldstein served as a trial attorney and an appellate attorney for OPA and has been with the Agency in various capacities since 2006. Prior to coming to Alaska, Ms. Goldstein served as patent counsel at the Procter & Gamble Company, Sr. Licensing Counsel at NCR Corporation and as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Southern District of Ohio. Ms. Goldstein graduated with a B.S. in Genetic Engineering from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania and earned her law degree from the University of New Hampshire School of Law (formerly Franklin Pierce Law). Ms. Goldstein has been a practicing attorney for 30 years.
