Welcome to the world of neurology! Sports Neurology and Traumatic Brain Injury specialist Dr. Allison Gray will explain the medicine of neurology and describe how neurologists identify and evaluate injuries. The program will focus on neurological injuries including intracranial hemorrhages, mild traumatic brain injury/concussion, moderate and severe traumatic brain injuries, as well as Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. Dr. Gray will cover diagnostics methods, explore the potential for and the limits of meaningful prognosis, and review current and evolving treatments. Dr. Gray will address how lawyers can use their knowledge of medicine in evaluating cases. This is an excellent program for litigators, workers’ compensation and employment law attorneys.

The program will be divided into two sections:

Neurology

  • Introduction to Neurology: Neuroanatomy review
  • Intracranial hemorrhages: Clinical Presentation, Brain Imaging, Treatment, and Prognosis

Traumatic Brain Injury

  • What is a concussion? Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) diagnosis, treatment and prognosis
  • Postconcussion syndrome (PCS)
  • Treatment of concussion and PCS
  • Prognosis in concussion and PCS
  • Moderate traumatic brain injury
  • Severe traumatic brain injury involving contusion, hemorrhage
  • CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy)

About the presenter:

Dr. Gray is a Board-Certified Neurologist and Brain Injury Specialist, originally from the Boston area. She trained in medicine and Neurology in the Northeast, completing her residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the two major teaching hospitals for Harvard Medical School in Boston. She went on to complete fellowship training in Sports Neurology and Concussion in the Boston area, working with athletes at all levels of play, including professional boxers, MMA fighters, and football players, and NCAA collegiate athletes, as well as high school athletes. She moved to Colorado with her family in 2015 and opened her own practice, Boulder Neurology and Concussion, in 2018. Dr. Gray sees thousands of brain-injured patients every year and also evaluates and treats patients for other neurological problems such as stroke, Alzheimer’s dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and migraines. She works with attorneys throughout the United States as a brain injury expert and expert in neurology. She has worked with plaintiff’s and defense attorneys in personal injury cases, medical malpractice cases, and criminal cases. Dr. Gray greatly enjoys teaching; she has given programs to multiple bar associations in the United States about a variety of topics in neurology.
