The COVID-19 Pandemic in Alaska: Reflecting on the Interaction of Public Health and the Law with Dr. Anne Zink
Dr. Anne Zink, Chief Medical Officer for the State of Alaska
Dr. Zink will discuss the ways public healthcare and the law joined forces specifically with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic. She will describe the strengths and limitations the state faced as well as lessons learned from the experience. She will also talk about how we can build a strong and robust response to the overall health and well-being of all Alaskans, taking into account the legal and health components, both thinking about individual rights as well as the communities’ overall health so we can better address future challenges and they come forward.
Anne grew up in Colorado and moved through her training from College in Philadelphia to Medical School at Stanford and then Residency at University at Utah. As a mountaineering guide she had fallen in love with Alaska and after residency in Emergency Medicine became lucky enough to call Alaska home. Not only does she love people and the place, but also the medicine. She quickly became involved in helping improve systems of care as the medical director of her group, then in her hospital and with state and federal legislation, including state legislation to improve care coordination, opioid addiction treatment options, integration between private systems and the VA, DOD, and IHS facilities and more.
